
AI Recruitment Trends: South Asia’s Shift Towards Amplifiable Skills
The South Asian labor market is witnessing a significant transformation influenced by advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the World Bank Group’s Chief Economist, Franziska Ohnsorge, hiring in AI-exposed occupations is experiencing a notable slowdown. This trend poses challenges for job prospects in regions where long-standing labor market disparities persist.
Ohnsorge highlighted that while positions in AI-substitutable roles are decreasing, there is a growing demand for complementary AI skills. This pivot towards AI-enhanced capabilities signifies a critical shift in hiring practices as companies adapt to new technological landscapes.

Recent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) established by India with the EU and the UK are expected to enhance access to global markets, which will likely yield broader economic benefits beyond mere tariff reductions.
